Maura Metheny Ph.D.
Senior Hydrogeologist / Project Manager

You might say that Maura Metheny is obsessed with the science of groundwater having grown up in the arid west where, as Mark Twain said water is for fighting. She believes water is worth fighting for with scientific methods and logic.

Dr. Metheny is a senior hydrogeologist and project manager with Geomega (since 2012) and specializes in numerical groundwater flow modeling, solute transport modeling, aquifer testing and analysis, site characterization, site remediation, and mine dewatering. She also has many years of experience in litigation support including groundwater flow analysis, contaminant source identification, groundwater age dating, allocation strategy, and report preparation.
Currently, her focus is on managing multi-disciplinary projects (i.e. EIS baseline studies), and groundwater modeling.

Maura received her Bachelors degree in Geology from California State University, Chico and her Masters and Doctoral degrees from The Ohio State University in Geological Sciences. She is a professional geologist in the State of California.

During her 30 years in the field of hydrogeology, she has worked on numerical models for open pit and underground mine dewatering, coastal water supply, remedial groundwater extraction systems, landfill remediation, surface water/groundwater interaction, and artificial recharge projects. She has source characterization and contaminant transport modeling for perchlorate, solvents, gasoline, metals, fly ash components, and sea-water intrusion.

Geomega is proud to have a hydrogeologist and project manager with such a diverse background and a love for groundwater science. She is proactive in mentoring junior staff and her years of experience and insight are a great asset to the company.
